Even the Illusion Can Be Transformed

Most of us keep our spirituality hidden, cloaked or under our skin. Deeply powerful spiritual beings or deeply attained spiriutual teachers, will stay away from commenting on the political theatre, the current state of geo-politics or on a good sports match (there are of course many exceptions). From the ultimate perspective, these are pure illusions and probably worthless or “worthful” occurrences. But here is my point – why is say politics kept separate from spirituality – in either your mind or anyone’s mind. It’s not like we can be spiritual beings in a vacuum, can we?
We are spiritual beings in the constant present moment, creating and impacting the world we live in and celebrating our SELF and the universal SELF in all. Therefore we should consciously bring our spirituality into the world in all areas right?…politics, business, marriage, education, manufacturing – EVERYTHING REALLY. How will politics get transformed globally, if we only leave our spirituality to our meditation sessions (and I am a great believer/practitioner in/of meditation, make no mistake). Isn’t it time we let our light shine through in the illusion of the world, as it stands today, so that even the illusion can be transformed?

  1. Manisha – Lovely thoughts that I truly concur with and so beautifully expressed. 🙂

Dennis – even the anonymous 60W bulb lights up the land. the anonymous drops of water make the oceans. anonymity or the lack thereof are incidental to the moment and dont impact the rishness of the moment in any way. I love the perspective brought to this post by Manisha. It flows like a gentle river.

  2. Dear Manisha, These are great questions and great points. Love Nisargadattajis point as well. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, much to silently contemplate.

  3. What should a human being be doing with his life? Is he ‘doing’ anything really or is it being done through him? Is one persons choice of activity, of expression, of spirituality better or more valid than anyone elses? Is our prejudice towards beauty and life and bliss ‘higher’ than someone elses desire to destroy or damage?

I think many of those spiritual masters who have come to recognise the ‘illusion’ you speak of, may have no desire to actively change the illusion to another apparently more harmonious illusion . They watch the game and how each person is playing out a role, and experience a deeper sense of harmony in the entire game, without judgement, preference or prejudice!

So what is there to be done – besides staying deeply in tune with the energies of the Universe and be willing to offer yourself as a channel for its work to be done – whether it be done openly and publicly or silently and anonymously – knowing always that things are being done through you – Nisargadatta speaks of the light of the Sun that neither ‘controls’, nor ‘takes responsibility’ for the growth of the grass – it simply ‘makes it possible’ by being true to its own nature and offering its light.

The same light could also cause a roaring fire elsewhere….

  4. 🙂 In the current state of politics, spiritual quotient is weighed by how bad a criminal can you imagine to become … Here’s an example from what Karnataka’s ex-Chief Minister desires to preach (page 12 of today’s ToI-Mumbai)http://bit.ly/dficMc

Of course the soul has lost it’s place as the Maharashtra Chief Minister points out on the double standards (page 2 of the same news paper) http://bit.ly/9NvfU6

And, these are children at play compared to the some in the so called “world’s only super power” that play with the lives of countless others across the globe.

Yes, you are absolutely right and precisely the reason why The 8th Habit … from Effectiveness to Greatness by Stephen R. Covey talks about “the voice” which is not just the “Intellectual” and “Emotional quotient but equally important about the “Physical” and “Spiritual” quotient that one needs to focus on and build up on.

    Cheers! 😉

    1. Dear Bomi, I will definitely read and catch up with Covey’s 8th Habit book, as soon as I get some time. The spiritual quotient definitely needs to be added in personal and public life. Thank you for sharing your perspective, always enriching.

  5. When Sachin Tendulkar is at the crease focussing his attention on a small white ball hurtling towards him at 140 kmph so that he can swing it into the Brabourne Stadium clubhouse for a six – I am certain he would be in a deeply meditative state of concentration.

The greatest impacts on the material world are caused by humans who extend their sense of spirituality and meditativeness into their environment through channels of their interest, be it sport, economics, business, politics etc. In politics the examples that come to mind are Vajpayee and Manmohan Singh. In business, Ratan Tata & Kumar Mangalam Birla.

But these are tip of the iceberg examples. There are millions of anonymous people around the world, who go about their simple lives in a state of quiet awareness, compassion and joy – inspiring a small circle of souls around them. Many small 60W bulbs combine the light up the largest of lands. 🙂

    1. Ananda, thank you for these words. Isn’t it time for all these anonymous people around the world, to become known and join in a terrific source of LIGHT and INNER REVOLUTION. Why be satisfied with just being anonymous, especially when we are co-creators of this very world we live in, even if it is an illusion?
